HOSPITAL VISITS!

WHAT SHOULD I DO AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT?

Call the Police and call for medical help. You are not likely to appreciate the extent of your injuries if any, so always agree to go to the hospital if asked. Get checked out by a doctor and his or her observations documented.

Obtain the following information and provide it to ICBC:

  • Names, addresses, and telephone and driver’s license numbers of all of the other drivers;
  • The license plate numbers of the other vehicles;
  • Names and addresses of the registered owners of the vehicles.

Write down any observations you make at the scene eg. Road conditions, witnesses who saw the accident, take pictures on your phone if you don’t have a camera handy.

Contact ICBC as soon as possible at the Dial-A-Claim number (1-800-910-4222 or 604-520-8222) and provide them with brief details of the accident, your injuries and the damage to your vehicle – stick to the facts only!

SHOULD I MEET WITH ICBC?

Yes, BUT NOT BEFORE calling Randy for advice to ensure your rights are protected.

WHAT DO I DO NOW ABOUT WORK?

Get your doctor to examine you and confirm you need time off work. Speak to your Human Resources and Payroll department to ensure you apply for any extended health benefits you may be entitled to through your employer.

I DON'T REMEMBER MUCH BECAUSE I WAS SEVERELY INJURED AND UNCONSCIOUS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. WHO CAN I TURN TO FOR HELP AND HOW CAN I FIND WITNESSES?

Put a sign up at the scene of the accident asking for witnesses who were there at the time of the accident. Ensure the sign is clear and the lettering is large enough for people to be able to read it from a reasonable distance. Do this as soon as possible after the accident – the longer the delay, the more likely it is that people may forget important details.

HOW CAN I ENSURE I'M ADEQUATELY COMPENSATED FOR MY INJURIES?

Attend all doctors’ appointments and contact Randy to discuss further AS SOON AS YOU’RE ABLE TO AFTER THE ACCIDENT.

IS ICBC'S SETTLEMENT OFFER FAIR? IF NOT WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?

Most people are unaware of just how much their medical bills and other expenses arising from the accident will amount to, over time. Randy’s experience will ensure a fair monetary assessment based on your current treatment needs, lost income, and potential future medical expenses. Don’t accept a settlement without first consulting Randy who will work to protect your rights and interests.

I DON'T FEEL WELL ENOUGH TO TACKLE A LEGAL CASE NOW, WHAT SHOULD I DO? HOW LONG CAN I WAIT BEFORE TACKLING THIS MATTER?

Randy is sensitive to his client’s needs and will take on your case up to two years after the accident. This is sometimes necessary to allow you to get better before your case is tackled.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Randy will handle your accident case on a contingency fee basis. This means that you will pay a percentage of whatever you recover from your accident claim.

HOW WILL THE CLAIM BE SETTLED?

Randy will work to settle your claim by mediation or trial.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO HANDLE MY CASE?

Generally speaking, the larger and more complex the personal injury lawsuit is, the longer it may take. Randy and his team will do everything they can to resolve your personal injury case quickly and fairly.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DON’T REALIZE I HAVE SUFFERED INTERNAL INJURIES UNTIL SEVERAL DAYS, WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT?

Seek medical advice from your doctor and advise Randy about any changes in your medical situation.

WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO PROVIDE MY LAWYER?

You will need to provide your lawyer with all details surrounding your car accident.

  • Names and phone numbers of witnesses, the careless driver, and any other vehicle owners or drivers involved
  • Date and time of the accident
  • Driving conditions
  • Location
  • Information regarding your medical treatment for your injuries
